History
Bazooka
1970
September, 1970: Musicians from three former bands get together and start a new band called Bazooka. The lineup is: Chuck Edwards on lead guitar and vocals (from Danny’s Reasons); Tom Hopp on second lead guitar and vocals (also from Danny’s Reasons); Denny Johnson on bass guitar and vocals (from Jokers Wild/Flash Tuesday); and Robby Belleville on drums (from Copperhead). The band rehearses at Chuck’s home in St. Paul.
October 28 – 31, 1970: The band plays their first four jobs at The King of Diamonds, a small club in St. Paul. The group plays mainly cover songs including songs by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Fleetwood Mac; and The Rolling Stones. The band also plays some original songs.
November – December, 1970: The band hits the road, playing jobs in the five state region ranging from Jamestown, North Dakota to Storm Lake, Iowa. Traveling across five states in a rental van in the middle of winter takes a toll on the band members.
December 31, 1970: The band plays their final job on New Years Eve in Fredrick, Wisconsin and call it quits.
UPDATE:
2009: A tape is made available of the band’s rehearsals, recorded by Tom Hopp at Chuck’s house in the fall of 1970. The tape contains original songs and cover songs. .
